A guide to using your H.W. Apothecary products
The Rejuvenation Oil
This oil inspired by ancient beauty potions is made with organic cold-pressed jojoba oil (which is really a skin protective and healing plant wax), helichrysum deemed the “Immortal Flower” for youthful skin, 660 roses and the resin of frankincense. Together these valued plant spirits create an ultimate potion to heal skin and scars, reduce redness in even the most reactive skin, banish acne, and target wrinkles. It is a potion for all skin types from oily to dry and the most sensitive. The seductive rose scent and the light notes of frankincense are soothing for the mind and soul. This product has many uses to help streamline your beauty routine leaving you time to actually enjoy the experience.
Face oil & eye care. Wash your face thoroughly without disrupting your skin’s barrier. If it is already disrupted and you are experiencing breakouts and other skin problems, this will help balance and ensure a healthy skin micobiome. After your face is washed moisten your face well with a hydrosol of choice, such as rose for all skin types even sensitive and acne prone, frankincense to target wrinkles, or helichrysum for sunburned, scarred or dry skin. Adding moisture will allow deep penetration of the product and trap moisture to the skin. Add three drops to a nickel size drop of the Rejuvenation Oil to your hands and message into the face, around the delicate eye area, neck and chest. You can perform a facial message using a gua sha stone tool to ensure lymphatic drainage, reduce puffiness, and to further detox and tighten the skin. The oil will not make your skin greasy making it suitable for day-wear, and as a primer if you wear foundation to prevent make-up from settling in your wrinkles.
Body & breast oil. Apply the oil to your body right after a bath or shower. Mix in your palm with rose water to get the most out of this oil and to extend use. This oil rich in rose, the very flower symbolizing womanly power, can be used as a breast message oil to care for the tender skin. Message your breasts to heal and tighten breast tissue, and release toxins that accumulate in the fatty tissue. Perform regularly to reduce your breast cancer risk and to release feel good hormones.
Tip: Dry brush your body in long strokes, always working towards the heart, prior to bathing and applying the oil, it will further detox your body, exfoliate and soften your skin.
Hair. Only a drop or two is needed on dry hair to tame frizz and damaged hair, or prevent damaged ends. Apply just a drop or two in your hands, warm in hands and apply to the ends of your hair. Roses will leave a soft beautiful scent to your hair.
Nail and cuticle care. Message into cuticles to heal and moisturize your nails.
Make-up remover. Slightly moisten a cotton round with a plant hydrosol of choice and apply a couple drops of the oil to the cotton round. Use the cotton round to remove make-up. Effective at removing even the most stubborn water-proof make-up without irritating your skin.
Face steam & bath. Add to your bath with real rose petals for a goddess like treat to soften the skin and senses. It can also be added to a bowl of steaming water alone to steam your face or added with other herbs tailored to your needs to heal and detox your face. Face wash. Message a liberal amount of the oil in circular motions onto your face before rinsing. Your skin should be dry. Message your eye area last to remove mascara and other eye makeup. Rinse well with warm water and place a steamed/warmed face cloth over your face for a minute. Remove and wipe away any excess oil from your face with the cloth. Bonus, the face cloth helps exfoliate away dead skin cells without the irritation.
Organic Blue Vervain
This is a most valued herb in witchcraft, and to this day, a valued herb to support good health. In 1633, a famed English Botanist Gerarde-Johnson recorded that “Many old wives fables are written of Vervain tending to witch-craft and scorcerie.” The plant however has been notable for millennia associated with the goddesses of Isis and Cerridwen, used for protection among the ancient Druids in Western Europe and Native Americans alike in the New England (specifically the Mohegan and Montauk tribes). Today herbalists use it to relieve stress, boost circulation to ease headaches, cleanse the blood and to prevent cancer. This is a potent plant ally with medical qualities that are extremely bitter.
Here are some Health Witch recommendations for using vervain:
Herbal Infusion. Create an herbal infusion using vervain by adding a tablespoon of vervain to a cup of hot water. Because it is extremely bitter, add a liberal amount of honey to sweeten. Let this mix sit with the herb overnight and strain the herbs out before ingesting. Take a shot of this infusion when you begin to experience tension headaches, hormone imbalances and when you just need to find some relaxation.
Floor Wash. Vervain brings peace and protection to the home. Create a ritual floor wash using vervain to bless your home. On the stove boil a pot of water and add ½ cup of vervain. Remove from stove, to let it cool enough to strain and to touch. Bless the water with your intentions and add a tablespoon (or two) of castile liquid soap. Think good thoughts as you cleanse your space.
Mouth Rinse. Create a mouth wash, much like the way you do creating an herbal infusion. Boil water and add a liberal amount of vervain to the hot water. Once cooled, jar it and place it in the fridge overnight. In the morning strain, use as a mouth wash and spit out the potion (trust me, you will want to). If you can stick out the bitter taste, it cleanses your mouth of bacteria wonderfully to ensure good breath throughout the day.
Protection Charm. Carry a sachet of dried blue vervain whenever you are in need of protection, under psychic attack, and put under your pillow if you are experiencing bad dreams. Call home some organic blue vervain today!
The Healing Face Mask
Health Witch took all the most potent skin ingredients known since ancient times to create a healing powder potion. Blessed with sandalwood, lavender, and spices to improve circulation and to lightly exfoliate. This face mask smells divine and the therapeutic aromas help elevate stress to bring you to a calm state inside and out. Read below for how to use this product.
Face Mask. After your skin has been washed, mix 1 teaspoon with plant hydrosols, or if you have really dry skin yogurt and a little honey. Leave it on for 20 minutes or less (do not let it dry completely to avoid stripping the skin), avoiding the eye area. Rinse with warm water.
Face wash & Exfoliation. Health Witch uses the Rejuvenation Oil at night to cleanse the face, and the Healing Face Mask to cleanse the face in the morning (as your face should only need a light cleanse in the morning). While the face is wet, add some of the power to your hands mixing it with water or a plant hydrosol and apply it gently to your face. Let is sit for a minute and gentle message it off. The scent is very soothing and invigorating first thing in the morning.
Spot treatment. Mix a small amount of the powder to your hands and add some plant hydrosol to moisten it into a paste. Apply to your blemish for 30-60 minutes and wash away.
